Running Multiple OmniFocus Databases [NerdWorthy]

Hey Gang.

Like many of you Mac users out there, I’m a huge huge believer in the all-mighty OmniFocus; but I live a somewhat double-life and needed an OmniFocus solution to match….

So I sent off a question to the team over at Omni Group to see  if there was a way to run two OmniFocus databases at once; so I could split me crime-fighting to-do’s and the GTD actions of my alter-ego… So I could open up each separate OmniFocus ‘version’ in isolation.

… and alas there was a solution:

Thanks for writing in! While you can run multiple databases in OmniFocus, there are some limitations- currently, you can only sync one database at a time (the default database located in ~/Library/Application Support/OmniFocus), and your perspectives are tied to the default database as well.

The easiest way to create another database is by making a copy of the “OmniFocus.ofocus” database file in ~/Library/Application Support/OmniFocus, renaming it, then removing all data from that duplicate to start fresh.

If you have any other questions or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. We really appreciate your support!

Well OmniFocus, I appreciate your support.

OK that’s interesting, but HOW do you open the second DB?

All you need to do is double click on the DB file, like you would when you open an excel or word doc, and it will open right up in OmniFocus
